Ladies and gents, we are extremely excited to announce that our refurbishment of The Homestead at Hazendal is complete, which means we are ready to open the doors to this beautiful destination in the Cape Winelands!

If you’ve been meaning to book a luxury weekend away near Cape Town, we highly recommend that you put our guesthouse at the top of your list. Sure, we’re a little biased, but to be fair The Homestead is also all sorts of amazing.

Here are 7 reasons why you need to book your spot at this gem of a location ASAP:

1. It’s all yours!

The Homestead 5-bedroom guesthouse

First things first - when you book The Homestead, it’s all yours. We like to give our guests an exclusive experience, which is why the 5-bedroom Homestead can only be booked as a single unit for private use by one group at a time. This makes it the ideal option for families or groups of friends who want to book a luxury getaway near Stellenbosch.

2. The Homestead is steeped in fascinating history

The Homestead Dining Hall

The sensitive restoration of The Homestead has returned this building to its former glory to reflect the graciousness of its past, much as it would have when it was first built in 1790 (the date inscribed on the gable). This makes it a perfect example of vernacular Cape Dutch architecture during the lavish Rococo period.

During the extensive restoration project the roof was returned to thatch, doors and windows were custom-made to be re-fitted in their original positions, and modern cement plaster was stripped and replaced with traditional lime to preserve the original clay brickwork. The space has also been decorated with a remarkable collection of antique furniture, collectables and art of the South African masters.

TOP TIP: Even if you can’t come for a full-on stay at Hazendal, you can still tour the premises with prior booking. The Homestead is open from Tuesday to Friday 10:00 - 17:00, and Saturday to Sunday from 09:00 - 17:00 for day visitors to discover the period furniture, architecture and art on self-guided tours.

Highlights include original works by acclaimed artists Vladimir Tretchikoff and Jacobus Hendrik Pierneef, as well as one of the largest privately-held historic map collections in South Africa and furniture rarities from the 18th century.

3. We include some tasty eats in the deal

Continental breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, which is why we’re making sure that you start off your day at The Homestead with a gorgeous full breakfast prepared by a private chef, served at the guesthouse. Alternatively, you could opt for breakfast at Babushka Deli. Naturally, the pantry will also be stocked with delicious snacks and pâtisserie prepared by The Homestead chef.

4. And a wine tasting experience, of course!

Hazendal Wine Tasting Lounge

A stay on a wine farm near Stellenbosch would not be complete without a good and proper tasting of the vintages on offer. As such, your stay at The Homestead will also include a wine tasting experience at the epic Hazendal Wine Lounge. This can be arranged to take place at a time of your choosing.

5. You get a butler (and a concierge!)

The Homestead butler

To ensure that your entire stay runs smoothly, we’ve included a butler and concierge in the rate of your accommodation at The Homestead. The butler is on hand to serve your breakfast, and keep things nice and tidy while you relax during your time at Hazendal.

The concierge, on the other hand, will make sure that all your activity bookings are taken care of. They can also provide you with insider info on everything you can enjoy on the Hazendal grounds, and make recommendations (and bookings) if you want to venture further afield to explore a few other Winelands destinations during your stay.

Please note: The Homestead rates do not include transfers, lunches, dinners, additional wine tastings, alcoholic beverages, laundry and dry-cleaning.

6. The magic of Wonderdal awaits younger guests

Wonderdal Story cave

If you have any kiddos between the ages of 5 and 13 as part of your getaway crew, they’ll be thrilled to know that a stay at The Homestead is inclusive of access to our on-site VR paradise, Wonderdal

Here, kids can join the colourful Amuki characters and our trained WonderPals to discover exciting worlds of science, nutrition and nature across a variety of indoor and outdoor activity zones.

7. It’s a good place to get work done (if you need to)

The Homestead features some truly great WiFi, which means that you can book it for a luxurious corporate retreat as well. This way, you can conduct virtual meetings, square away all the must-do’s and then use the rest of your time on the estate to enjoy some fantastic team-building experiences as you discover everything we have to offer on-site.
