Why Hazendal is the ultimate family-friendly wine estate to visit this Easter

If you are on the lookout for a great family friendly wine estate to explore this Easter, hop right this way.

If you are on the lookout for a great family friendly wine estate to explore this Easter, hop right this way.

We know the Western Cape winelands can be a bit of an Alice in Wonderland maze of awesome when you start to consider your options, so we’re going to narrow it right down for you.

Here are five reasons why Hazendal is the ultimate family-friendly wine estate to visit this Easter:

1. Christoffel the Hare is on duty!

On Easter Sunday this year, Wonderdal at Hazendal will be hosting mini Easter themed treasure hunts in the Wildlands (the outside play area) for visiting youngsters.

Christoffel the Hare will be dishing out little Easter eggs for the kids on the Estate PLUS guests can win bottles of our Christoffel 2018 white blend, when they take a pic with our friendly life sized hare and use the hashtag #HazendalEaster when sharing it on social media. Our giftpack trio of Christoffel Hazenwinkel wines are also up for grabs-but you need to visit the Estate to find out more for this giveaway...

BONUS! We know it can be difficult to admit that you want some time to yourself over the Easter weekend, but here’s some real talk - wanting an hour or two to connect with your partner without being interrupted by little people is perfectly fine. It’s human!

This is why we’ll keep your kids fully edutained and looked after at Wonderdal while you enjoy a grownup vibe elsewhere on the property. Try any of our wine tasting experiences, or indulge in a Russian Tea Ceremony. Whatever floats your boat. Then meet back up with the fam afterwards as your best selves - it’s a win-win.

2. The Babushka deli is stocked with all sorts of Easter treats

Easter means lots of chocolate and tasty baked goods. Okay, yes, the holiday is about peace, forgiveness, family and togetherness and that’s the main thing. But you can 100% enjoy good chocolate and tasty baked goods while being peaceful, forgiving, familial and together.

As such, we’re making sure to stock the Babushka Deli with all sorts of whimsical Easter treats that can be added to your picnic, or taken home to be enjoyed at your leisure.WhatsApp Image 2021-03-19 at 13.49.44

3. But there are healthy kid-friendly eats available too!

On the other hand, we also realise that Easter weekend can be a veritable minefield of sugar that parents need to manoeuvre through like nutritional ninjas. So, once we’ve plied your sprouts with all the yums, we also provide you with the means of feeding them an honest-to-goodness healthy lunch to balance out the crazy.

The food magicians who staff our restaurants understand that kids aren’t necessarily all that into the green stuff, which is why they’ve found ways to transform health-boosting ingredients like cauliflower and pumpkin into small-human-pleasing dishes like mac & cheese. No kidding - check out the healthy kids recipes here

Best of all - it’s all been tried and tested and given the thumb’s up by little eaters, so you know it’s going to go down a treat. Babushka Kids Menu

4. It’s a great place to get some fresh air

No matter who you are, chances are you’ve spent quite a bit of time cooped up over the last year or so due to lockdown and all of that. As such, it’s really nice to get out in the open air whenever there’s an opportunity to do so.

Moreover, Easter weekend tends to be the pivoting point for the seasons in the Western Cape. This is when the help-me-I’m-melting heat of summer gives way to the inimitably crisp blue-sky days of a Winelands fall. In short - the weather is just perfect for long, lingering walks (and rather epic #nofilter Instagram snaps too, of course).

Hazendal has a great natural bamboo walkway through the bio-diverse wetlands at the foot of the estate where families can take a stroll, and lots of space, in general, to saunter along and drink in the scenery. This includes the lush, classically groomed werf which overlooks the lake and famous floating pavilion.

TOP TIP: If you're all about that organic veggie patch life, do not miss out on the Harvest Garden! This beautifully tended, formally structured garden is a source of fresh produce for the Hazendal restaurant and deli, and also features a gentle circular parterre that just begs to be ambled. Much loveliness.

5. The culturally inclined are catered for as well

If some members of your family have a love of the arts or more intellectual pursuits in general, Hazendal caters for that as well. There’s a cool classic car showcase, a full-on art gallery, a sculpture garden, and so much more to explore on the premises.
