Don’t you just love it when businesses go out of their way to craft a truly superior brand experience? It’s such a breath of fresh air! At Hazendal, we are fortunate enough to play host to big brands and corporates on a regular basis, so we tend to keep a close eye on what’s cooking on the branding stage. 

Here are five businesses that impressed us with their inspired take on brand experiences of late:

 

1. Barilla takes Federer straight to his fans

Well-known pasta brand Barilla tapped into a wonderful vein of happy feels when they took their brand ambassador Roger Federer straight to the rooftop of two tennis fans who had captivated the world during lockdown with their open-air games. 

Vittoria, 13, and Carola, 11, are staunch Federer fans and were absolutely thrilled when their idol appeared to have a game with them. Check out the campaign here and get ready to enjoy a nice big dose of the warm and fuzzies. 

 

2. Nike paves the way for #PlayInside

Nike is one of those brands that continually delight us with their fresh take on consumer engagement. This is why we were so happy when they stepped up to the plate with their rather marvellous #PlayInside initiative throughout the course of last year, when the world at large was trying to cope with the notion of staying cooped up in order to stay safe. 

To encourage people ‘to play for the world, play inside’, Nike made NTC Premium free for everyone and set about providing daily expert guidance to help everyone to stay active while they were sheltering in place. This means that users wake up to daily motivation to get moving. They also host a NTC Community Workout on YouTube Live every Saturday.

3. Stella Artois launches Hotel Artois @ Home

Stella Artois also decided to find a way for Americans to travel during lockdown in August last year. Naturally, hotel stays were going to be few and far between, so they opened a virtual Hotel Artois @ Home experience with the help of popular celebrities.

The Belgian beer brand released free hotel reservations through its booking portal sporadically and winners were treated to some seriously entertaining virtual experiences, boosted by door-side deliveries. This includes a personalised wake-up call from Liev Schreiber, virtual chats with Bravo host Andy Cohen and 'room service' meals that actress Eva Longoria created in collaboration with local chefs. 

There were also a bunch of plush extras such as branded robes, slipper sets and a table from which the winners could video-conference with the celebs in question.

4. Airbnb opens its doors to COVID-19 responders

Airbnb turned a negative into a positive when their business started losing bookings due to COVID-19-related lockdowns around the world. Instead of clamping down in order to keep their overheads low, hosts were encouraged to offer their spaces as socially distanced accommodation for doctors, nurses, and other frontline responders. 

This way, the medical personnel could be close to work while they were working tirelessly to save lives in the midst of the pandemic, and could also safeguard their families by not adding to the potential viral load in their homes. This is such a wonderful example of the ubuntu principle in action, don’t you think?

5. Dunkin’ Donuts Refreshers send quaranteams on RV experiences

Dunkin’ Donuts Refreshers rolled out the literal welcome wagon by treating a few lucky winners and their quaranteams to a week-long RV rental experience to a destination of their choice. This way they would be able to satisfy their pent-up wanderlust in alignment with the brand values of adventure and refreshment.

The campaign gained great traction online because the competition mechanic called for entrants to tag and share #DunkinRefreshSweepstakes when they filled out the entry form. Ultimately, the winners of the lucky draw took the road in a tricked-out, branded RV filled to the rafters with all sorts of Dunkin’ eats and treats.
